Rather than limiting engagement to observation, students draw on knowledge from across their course work to analyze current problems critically and constructively, and to examine how technology and innovation might contribute to concrete improvements. The course’s central orientation is one of structured inquiry: not merely asking “what is happening?” but “what could be done differently, and why?” – informed throughout by the perspectives of practitioners working directly in the field.◆Mapping Community Health Through Real-World Data: Field Studies in Takahata, YamagataSet in Takahata Town, Yamagata Prefecture—a municipality actively engaged in advancing community health—this three-night, four-day intensive fieldwork program gives students firsthand experience of regional healthcare at the frontline. The program centers on a data analysis workshop using actual records held by the local government, including specific health checkup data and community health program data. Students work directly with these records to identify and visualize regional health challenges, and to develop concrete policy proposals. On the final day, students present their findings to municipal staff. Feedback from practitioners with direct knowledge of local conditions allow students to develop practical skills in evidence-based policy work, and to take a first step toward research in Healthy Aging.◆Exploring Healthcare in Southeast Asia: CambodiaThis program aims to provide students with an understanding of Cambodia’s healthcare system and entrepreneurship in the context of Healthcare business development. Through visits to various institutions—including government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations—students gain deeper insight into the current state and challenges of Healthcare in Cambodia.
